As a 20-something year old, I am realizing how much change is occurring in my life right now. I see this in my friends too. We're all going through it. You too, probably.
Your 20's are your transformative years. They call it the "defining decade"— these are the years that will shape you personally and professionally.
In your 20's...you decide your career path, you go through traumatic heartbreaks, you outgrow friendships and people. You decide what's worth your time and what isn't. You learn the importance of self care and self love. You grow compassion. You care about self development (don't act like one of your new year's resolutions isn't to "read more books") Your sense of self becomes stronger and you take less sh*t from people.
But at the same time, in your 20's... you have extreme self doubt, you compare yourself to others and forget that everyone has their own timelines. Who's working where? This person already bought their own place? This person is making x amount of dollars? You might even stop yourself from doing something because you're too afraid of failing... or looking stupid. I have had so many people tell me they're scared of doing something out of the ordinary because they're scared of what others might think, or that they'll fail, or that they don't have the skills to succeed.
Well, I say f*ck that.
Don't let anything or anyone talk you out of doing things you want to do.
Weirdly enough, people are generally rooting for you to fail (in most cases), and I truly think it is because everyone in their twenties is trying to make it on their own. Lots of people project their insecurities onto others, but who can blame them?
If you have a dream, just f*cking go for it. Dreams require sacrifices. Be open to making those short-term sacrifices in order to achieve your long term goals. Your dream doesn't have to be something extravagant or fancy, it could be something as simple as being able to provide food for your family. Whatever it may be, you do you. I'm here for it.
DRMERS CLUB was started as a platform to spread encouragement and inspiration to everyone in their 20's, because trust me, I'm going through the same sh*t.
