SELF-DOUBT—tell your inner voice to chill out
Hi Friends,
Let’s address that pesky inner voice that just loves to put you down... it’s the voice that questions your abilities and whispers, "Can you really do this?"
Its name? Self-doubt.
First things first, let's acknowledge that self-doubt is perfectly normal. We’ve all probably had a conversation with ourselves at some point in our lives where we maybe weren’t too kind to ourselves.
The problem happens when we don’t actively work towards countering our self-doubt, and we normalize speaking poorly and doubting ourselves.
Try to remember how strong our minds are and the way that your mental well-being affects your physical one, and your life. I like to believe you get back the same energy you radiate!
Seeing as then the goal is to radiate success and positivity, working towards finding healthy ways to deal with self-doubt seems like the optimal path to take.
If you’re like me, that might seem impossible, but I thought of a fun way to approach self-doubt... we have to personify it.
Imagine self-doubt and negative thoughts were a little devil sitting on your shoulder, that must mean there has to be an angel somewhere that can feed you self-confidence and positive thoughts, right?
When that little voice says, "You're not good enough," remind yourself that the little angel is also there filled with positive self-talk. Respond with evidence of your past accomplishments. Remember those times you conquered challenges and came out stronger? Hold onto those moments and let them fuel your confidence.
Embrace the fact that it's okay to have moments of uncertainty, but don't let them define your journey.
Make sure to practice self-compassion too. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer a friend. Yes, we aren’t always perfect, but it won’t do you any good to punish yourself for it.
Lastly, your environment also heavily affects how you feel, see, and talk to yourself. Surround yourself with positive influences. Surround yourself with friends, mentors, and people who lift you up and believe in your dreams. Their encouragement will inspire you to keep pushing forward.
So, the next time self-doubt tries to whisper sweet nothings into your ear, make sure to flick it off your shoulder, turn the other way, and listen to the little angel inside your brain…
You are capable, strong, and worthy of pursuing your drms. Believe in yourself because I certainly do <3
Lots of love,
Nina <3
I’m definitely going through a period of self doubt ever since I graduated university. Just gotta learn to push through and be kind to myself during this transition from student to being an actual adult. Thanks for the helpful post :)
